Text Annotations Unit Plan

Use this template to plan a unit that teaches text annotations. Identify the text, the purpose, the symbols you will teach, the context clues you will introduce, your writing prompt, and the assessment questions that go with it.

For a sample completed document, you may return to your course module and view a completed sample.

Select a text you could teach in an upcoming unit. This can be a book or book chapter(s), a passage, or any other text that would allow you to teach annotations within your unit plan.

Purpose

Describe the purpose of this unit plan and how text annotations will help support that purpose. What specifically do you want students to understand from the text? How will students show their understanding?

List the specific symbols you plan to teach and require your students to use. Add more rows as needed.

List at least three context clues you plan to teach in this unit, along with the examples you will use. It is usually easier to begin with your authentic example, then create a made-up example from there.
