Financial Literacy Implementation Plan

Now that you have learned more about the course topics, it is time to build a plan for implementing what you have learned into your own financial life. Complete the plan template below by reflecting on what you need to do to fully implement the course ideas in a way that benefits your personal financial growth. Use the prompt in each box below to provide a thorough overview of your implementation plan. Then, plan key actions for implementation on the last page. This implementation plan must be specific to the course content for this course, and you must build and submit a unique plan for each course you complete.

For a sample completed document, you may return to your course module and view a completed sample.

Implementation Approach

For example, you might describe a strategy or concept discussed in the course, such as how to budget, and what tools (e.g., an envelope system), and explain how you think a strategy such as combining a budget with the envelope system would work well for you and your household. What you write should be specific and unique to the course content, the ideas you wish to implement, and your own personal financial plans.

Resources Needed

For example, you might need to build a budget, and research and select an application to track and stay on top of your budget. List and then describe any and all resources that you might need to build, find, or modify for implementation.

Desired Outcome

Describe in detail what you expect to accomplish from putting some of the course ideas you learned into action in your own life. You might describe a goal you wish to achieve (e.g., saving for a down payment on a house in 5 years or less), or anything else you hope to accomplish by implementing what you have learned here.

Accountability & Assessment

Consider how you will monitor the success of implementation and identify areas that didn't work well and need improvement. For example, you might consider trying to live on a budget for 2 months straight, and what you will do to adjust if you end up going over budget. You may decide to pay off one debt account within 6 months. What will you do to accomplish this, and hold yourself accountable? What happens if you fail to meet the goal?

Action Items for Implementation

Plan for a successful implementation by mapping out key actions you must take to fully and effectively implement your ideas. Consider what prep work must occur before implementation, how and when you will implement your ideas, and what methods for assessing progress you should consider. Be detailed in your required resources, what planning must occur to complete the action item, and how the action fits into your implementation plan. Choose at least 5 actions that you can record and plan for.

Action items

Example: Example 1 Action: Build a household budget. Date(s) of Implementation: September 1st and then ongoing Resources Required: Budget tool (YNAB online tool), bank statement of my previous spending, calculator Planning required: I will need to review spending for the past 3 months on all accounts. Description of Action: I will use my previous expenses to begin categorizing them by expense category. Then, I will create these categories in my YNAB budgeting application and enter the expenses. I will adjust each category to fit my goals and ensure my budget is balanced at $0, or possibly have a surplus. Example 2 Action: Implement ID Theft protection for myself and my family Date(s) of Implementation: By the end of October Resources Required: ID Software (e.g., Lifelock®) Planning required: I will research ID theft programs I can subscribe to and select one that meets my needs and budget. Description of Action: Once I have selected my ID theft protection service, I will sign up and enter in all of my tracked information so that I will have complete ID theft tracking for myself and members of my family.

Your answers will be turned into a PDF you can download. You'll then need to upload that PDF to your course.
